Meet Natalie Barber, a Director, Clinical Operations in our Perth team. Natalie plays a crucial role in ensuring client engagements are scoped, managed and delivered in the Chrysalis way!
A bit about me
I grew up in a seaside town in Norfolk, UK, where I lived and worked prior to moving to Perth, Australia, nine years ago. I love to watch live sports including AFL, and am passionate about Rugby Union and Formula 1. If I had a chance to have another career, I would likely do something in the car industry as I love to drive! Outside of work, I really enjoy meeting up with friends over a glass of wine and good food which is bountiful in Perth.
My career so far
I studied Biology at university and my career took an unplanned path from there into Data Management and Research Governance, which I have applied across many industries including pharmaceutical, biotech (including a start-up), NHS, not-for-profit medical research and consulting.
I am passionate about the world of research, particularly clinical research. I get the most satisfaction from any role I can play in supporting and enabling researchers and their teams to deliver high quality research in the most expeditious and streamlined way possible.
What my day at Chrysalis looks like
Chrysalis has offices across the country and as Perth is the last to ‘wake up’ I spend the first part of my morning catching up with the team on any important updates and prioritising the day ahead. This includes reviewing key milestones and deliverables, attending client meetings, meeting with members of my team and ensuring we are focused on delivering and achieving outcomes.
What I enjoy about consulting
The breadth of the work and applying the knowledge I have gained throughout my career to support our clients in evidenced based care. I am a people person, so being able to interact with professionals across multiple disciplines of research is extremely satisfying. Finally, consulting offers so much scope to gain insights across the sector that I can add to our knowledge databank and bring to our clients.
I knew I’d made the right decision to join Chrysalis when
On my first client engagement working with multiple MRIs and universities, a key stakeholder confided in me and said, ‘You actually know this field well and not like other consultants’. That’s when I knew I’d made the right decision – it completely aligns with what gives me satisfaction in my working life.
On a personal note, Chrysalis is a very caring environment and some days you are just having a bad day for whatever reason and someone from the team will reach out to you and check-in.
A few words which best describe working at Chrysalis
Values based. It is easy to write values but demonstrating them is another thing and to me is important to work with people that uphold the values of the organisation, and I see it daily.
Fast paced but not at the expense of team morale and impacting high quality results.
Finally, we are a genuinely caring team who look out for each other, and this supportive environment enables us to do so.
How Chrysalis supports my career progression and development
It is important to me to continue to learn, there is always room for improvement and to gain new perspectives. I learn something new nearly everyday from the Chrysalis team as we all bring such different experiences.
Time is committed to personal development and actively encouraged. I have been fortunate to have seen quick progression in my career in my time at Chrysalis and it’s refreshing to be in an organisation that recognises the strengths of the people they have and has the courage to make decisions that are best for the organisation and the employees.
